In
1914, Japanese Jiu-Jitsu champion Esai Maeda migrated to Brazil,
where he was instrumental in establishing a
Japanese immigrant community. His efforts were aided by Gastão
Gracie, a Brazilian scholar and politician of
Scottish descent. As an statement of his gratitude for Gracie's
assistance, Maeda taught the Brazilian's oldest son
Carlos the essential secrets of the ancient martial arts technique.
Renzo has his own approach to the art that his
family has spent many years developing from its original forms
as brought to them early on. Today we have the
opportunity to be a part of the new era of this art called Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu as taught by one of the most respected
fighters today. Renzo has never been one to step down from a challenge
and today is training hard for the future
challenges that await him. From his early days as a pro surfer to
today as a top MMA fighter, Renzo has been
regarded as one of the most humble yet fierce competitors in the
circuit. He is constantly challenging himself and
those that make up Team Renzo Gracie, from the beginner student
to the ones who have stepped into the ring to
become champions.
Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu is a cutting edge fighting art, as well as a self defense
system for men, women, and children
alike. Developed from traditional Jiu-Jitsu by the Gracie family
it is famous for its devastating ground techniques.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was specifically developed to allow a smaller
person to defeat a larger person by application
of leverage techniques. Gaining superior position on your opponent
and applying a myriad of chokes, holds, locks
and joint manipulations becomes the foundation of this martial art.
The
Renzo Gracie Pa Academy Instructors
have been educated and taught in all areas of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
You will be
well versed in areas of self-defense and sport and will experience
the versatility and uniqueness
of this martial art. We
welcome anybody, regardless of your previous martial arts background,
to come train and
become a member of a great organization.
